What is an LEP Flashlight?

How Does an LEP Flashlight Work?
A blue laser is emitted through a focused lens to create Laser Excited Phosphor light. A beam of light is emitted by the laser hitting a phosphor backed by a metal substrate, which is then reflected, resulting in the bright white, long-range LEP light.
Making A “White Laser”
By definition, white lasers are misnomers; lasers are monochromatic and white is an amalgam of colors. Indium Gallium Nitride (InGaN) and yellow phosphor powder (most commonly Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (YAG)) are used to produce a similar effect with blue-emitting LEDs. By exciting phosphor powder with blue light, the LED produced a broad spectrum white light combining yellow and blue wavelengths.
A Note on Efficiency
Because of their high efficiency, LEP lights require less power for a greater amount of light than other sources. This is the result of the utilization of blue light. A typical drive current for blue lights is 4.2 mA, whereas a drive current for red and green lights is 8.8 mA and 10.5 mA respectively.
